How Can I Help?

If you would like help promote excellence and best practices in the management, finances and human resources of the Catholic Church, there are several things you can do.

First and most important is to be an active member of your parish community. Talk with fellow parishioners. Talk with your pastor and pastoral staff. Talk with your parish pastoral council. Talk with your parish finance council. What needs exist in your parish in the areas of management, finances and human resources? What skills exist among your parishioners that aren’t being tapped? Discuss how you can best volunteer in collaboration with others.

Another possibility is to step back and look at your diocese as a whole. How are the parishes doing overall? How are the schools doing? How is the diocese doing with vocations to the priesthood and religious life? How is the diocese doing with the recruitment, education, and formation of lay ministers? What are the specific needs of your diocese in the areas of management, finances and human resources? Talk with fellow parishioners, with neighboring parishes, and with diocesan leaders. Talk with your diocesan pastoral council. Work together to bring the gifts and talents of the laity in the areas of management, finances and human resources to help promote excellence and best practices in your diocese.

A third possibility involves the DVD’s and workbooks that are being developed as a result of the Wharton Leadership Roundtable. Every parish and diocese in the country may receive a copy of the DVD and a workbook to help facilitate a discussion in the key areas of management, finances and human resources. When the DVD’s and workbooks arrive, help your parish to organize a discussion group to explore how to better utilize the gifts and talents of the laity in these areas.

A fourth possibility is to donate to the National Leadership Roundtable on Church Management (NLRCM). NLRCM accepts donations to further its mission of promoting excellence and best practices in the management, finances and human resources development of the Catholic Church in the United States. NLRCM is incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and contributions are tax deductible.
